The Longhorn Season is Near
As of this article there are only eight days remaining until the 2009 season and home opener against Louisiana Monroe and you can just feel the excitement in the air around Austin. Fans are preparing their game day jerseys, tailgaters are corralling their equipment and local businesses are preparing for the flood of burnt orange fans to pack the bars and restaurants to cheer on the horns. As casual Fridays in the workplace turn into burnt orange Fridays all across the city longhorn fans wait for the first chance to sing the Texas Fight song and scream “OU SUCKS!”.
At this point in the preseason the Longhorns are ranked number two only behind the current national champions Florida. While the schedule this year is not the toughest there are some very challenging opponents. Without a doubt the most exciting conference in college football last year was the The Big 12 and it looks to continue that in 2009 with some amazing quarterback talents. With a host of returning players, depth of talent at almost all positions and a bad taste in their mouths about how last year played out Texas is in good shape to take it all the way this year.
With season tickets in hand and my trusty game day McCoy jersey ready to go I am ready to give all I have as a fan to support the horns. So lets do what Austin fans do best: come early, be loud, stay late, wear orange and give the other side hell!
Here is a montage of some pictures I took during the 2008 season with a little input from Obama at the end. Below is a video and some shots from this years open practice.
