Austin Toros

By AustinPixels

Formerly the Columbus Riverdragons from Columbus, Georgia the Austin Toros have been cultivating NBA talent in Austin since 2005. In 2007 they were acquired by the San Antonio Spurs becoming the second D-League team ever to be owned by an NBA team.

Up until this season the Toros called the Austin Convention Center home but have now made the move to the Cedar Park Center sharing the arena with the Texas Stars. Also new this year is head coach Brad Jones replacing Quin Snyder who joined the Philadelphia 76ers coaching staff. Jones had been the head coach for the Utah Flash (the opponent in the pictures) the past three seasons.

Since 2007 the Toros have finished in either first or second place during the regular season but have yet to bring home a D-League Championship. With an emphasis on a family atmosphere and the low-cost to attend a professional level basketball game the Toros have developed a good following in Austin and it should only grow with the more robust arena in Cedar Park.

Nice series of shots here! They are all so clear and sharp! What kind of lens did you use? I saw the exif of the top one on flickr and it’s a 2.8 aperture, but how long is it? Great job! I hope to get the same opportunity one day!
