Independence Brewing Co. 1st Saturday

The surest way to get flocks of Austinite’s to show up, even on the hottest of days, is to offer a free beer tasting. We love our local beer and we will wait in the longest of lines if you are willing to pour it for free; that is what sun block is for. Independence [...]

Jeff and the Jumptones

Jeff and the Jumptones ~ Austin Originally uploaded by austinpixels I recently enjoyed some good BBQ and drinks along with some real good music by Jeff And The Jumptones at The Key Bar in Austin. The BBQ was free and and plentiful even with the 100+ degree weather but was kept at bay with plenty [...]

Guy Forsyth, Austin’s Under Appreciated Music Talent

Transplanted from Kansas City to Austin in 1990 Guy Forsyth has journeyed from a tip seeking blues singer in the 311 Club to a diversified artist commonly seen at venues around Austin like The Saxon Pub, Marias’ Tacos, The Cactus Café and The Oasis. The Blanton Museum Austin, Texas

Although I have drove past the Blanton Museum many times I never realized what it was; one of the many features of Austin. Situated at the corner of MLK and Congress right across from the Bob Bullock Museum the Blanton hosts a number of amazing exhibit halls and spacious Faulkner Plaza with strolling and sitting [...]

Austin Yam Jam 2008 at Threadgill’s

http://www.austinyamjam.com This is the only event Operation Turkey uses to raise money each year. This years lineup was Porterdavis, Guy Forsyth (and band) and Mingo Fishtrap. At the end played the harmonica with Mingo Fishtrap which was really cool. After Guy Forsyth’s set he sat right in front of us with his family and was [...]

Flying Saucer Fall Beer Festival Austin

I went to the Flying Saucer Fall Beer Festival today and I thought it was a decently put together event. We got there around 3 PM and it was pretty crowded but overall they had good music playing and a few spots set aside with some shade. It was surely a dog friendly and kid [...]

Pecan Street Festival Austin Texas 2008

We only had a little time to spend here since it was prior to a Longhorn game but it was pretty cool. It was crowded but there was plenty to do if there was not such an important football game to go to. There were 4 dollar beers that you could buy and drink on [...]

Austin Chronicle Hot Sauce Festival 2008

This was my second year attending and this year was considerably more crowded than I remember. I toughed out a few lines for the free hot sauce but some lines were over 100 deep… Couple that with a hangover and I was more interested to sit a listen to music for the most part. The [...]

Live at the Lake Concert Series – Austin / Lakeway

Time is running out, there are only four more weeks of Live at the Lake. I have made two shows and if you enjoy sun, water, music and beer you will enjoy this. The pictures don’t really show it but there are 5 pools to choose from. The three tiered pools directly in front of [...]

SXSW 2008 Waterloo Park

Another awesome Austin freebee, the Waterloo Park free show was well worth the trip. There were three stages, two for music and one that seemed to be a stage for comedy acts. There was no online lineup prior to heading downtown but the variety of acts were awesome. Great experience.
